A hilariously awkward video has shown the moment an Indian groom’s mother started beating him with a slipper on what should have been a tender moment between him and his newly-wedded wife.
Weddings in India are known for being big, loud, and a time when hundreds of people can celebrate as a couple ties the knot.
But, a video shared by A4 Times on July 4 shows one wedding in Uttar Pradesh that might be remembered for all the wrong reasons.
The one-minute and 20-second clip shows the happy couple in a rotating platform that resembles a lotus flower, while they are snapped by wedding photographers.
But, as the couple celebrates, a woman, who The India Times claims is the groom’s mother, can be seen climbing up the steps towards them and then unleashes her disapproval by striking out with a slipper.
A guest then steps in, telling her to stop, but the mother appears undeterred and continues to strike at her son with her footwear as others look on.
Moments later, two guests pull the mother away from the couple and she vanishes off-screen. It is not known what provoked her reaction, or what happened after the camera stopped rolling, but media outlets in India suggested the woman was unhappy at her son’s choice of bride.
The cringe-worthy wedding episode is far from the only time there has been an awkward moment when guests should be celebrating the new bond between newly-married partners.
A viral video that was uploaded onto TikTok earlier this month showed the last moment a bride would want to hear on her wedding day, namely – the name of her new husband’s ex.
The awkward moment was shared by wedding videographer @jpvideography2141, who managed to capture the cringeworthy moment the wedding photographer took shots and accidentally called Missouri bride Katelyn Love, Taylor instead.
The problem is, Taylor was the name of her husband’s ex. The bride then awkwardly glanced over to the groom and scrunched up her nose while smiling before the whole wedding party burst into laughter.
“That’s his ex,” she informed the photographer.
Meanwhile, another Indian wedding ended with a massive shock when the groom called the event off and married another bride the same day, according to The New Indian Express.
According to the outlet, 27-year-old Ramakant Patra had arrived with a wedding procession to marry a woman in Sukinda, a town in the Jajpur district of Odisha, last month.
When he and his family arrived, they were welcomed by the bride’s relatives and taken to have lunch before the wedding ceremony. But the groom was unhappy with the menu and ended up marrying another bride.
