In 2016, celebrity stylist Micaela Erlanger and William “Mac” Osborne were set up on a blind date during New York Fashion Week by their mutual friend Savannah Engel. “Savannah had set me up on quite a few dates with what felt like most of New York City, and none of them had panned out,” Micaela remembers. “So I begrudgingly agreed to this one. And, thank god I did.” Three months later, he moved into her apartment, and in 2018, Mac surprised Micaela with a proposal on Sammy’s Beach in East Hampton.
Originally, their wedding weekend was set to take place in New York City in the fall of 2020. Because of the pandemic, they moved everything to October 2021. But as the uncertainty continued, Micaela and Mac decided it would be easiest to elope, which they did in St. Barth’s in August 2021. Then they landed on Miami—the city they relocated to during COVID—in April 2022 for their official wedding location and date. “Miami was the perfect choice for us—not only is it the new place we now call home, but also it felt like a destination wedding while being easy enough for people to get to,” Micaela says.
Planning a three-day wedding weekend during the pandemic meant that the couple had to navigate their fair share of curveballs along the way. “I couldn’t have done it without our incredible planner Tracey Goldstein from Polka Dot Events. She made the whole process as easy as it could be.” The festivities kicked off on March 31 with a bridal party dinner at Nikki Beach in Miami “Since I had the luxury of time to plan my outfits, I decided to really go all out,” Micaela says. “I collaborated with Jennifer Behr to make hair accessories for the weekend, and I sourced a lot of special vintage including two incredible pieces from the Versace archive. The first was the opening look from the show which J.Lo made famous and felt very appropriate for Miami.” At the dinner, Micaela and Mac gave their bridal party gifts and got a chance to catch up with everyone who had flown in for the weekend in a more intimate and relaxed setting. “The next day I hosted my bridesmaids for a day relaxing by the pool, and then later that evening, my mom threw a ‘meet and mingle’ party at the Goodtime Hotel. For this, Versace restored a dress for me that is truly a piece of fashion history,” Micaela says. “It was the finale dress that Kate Moss wore for the Fall 1994 show and Richard Avedon shot for the campaign. It couldn’t have been more perfect against the backdrop of our first real celebration at the Goodtime Hotel, complete with a surprise performance by the Aqualilies, a synchronized swimmer group.”
The following evening, the rehearsal dinner was held in the garden at the Standard Hotel for just the bridal party and immediate family, followed by a welcome party on the dock. Guests were shuttled to the venue by floating Cruisin Tikis, which set the tone for the night. “Cuban music played, and we lit up the entire dock with our favorite scented candles from Aqua di Parma, which created the most beautiful ambience and scent for the party. Dolce and Gabbana generously made me the most beautiful organza gown and my friend, designer Jonathan Cohen made me a hand-painted fan—the perfect accessory!” Micaela says. It was a night of many ensembles: For the welcome party on the dock, Micaela wore a Christian Dior Haute Couture silk flower dress, then changed into another piece from the house, this one made in the ’50s. “I paired [it] with perfect trousers my friend Christian Siriano made me,” Micaela adds.
Micaela, who has expanded into private client bridal styling, deals in beautiful dresses day in and day out. So when she got engaged back in 2016, she knew she wanted to wear something really special when she walked down the aisle. “As a celebrity stylist I have had the pleasure of working with so many brands over the years but Prada and its team hold a very special place in my heart,” she says. (Micaela is the woman behind Lupita Nyong’o’s well-known powder blue Prada look at the Oscars.) “Given the pandemic, we worked closely over three years to custom design my couture wedding gown, my reception gown, and my after-party look, as well as Mac’s two custom tuxedos. I flew back and forth to Milan for my fittings and had the best time collaborating with them. The team went above and beyond to make my dreams a reality.” The gown was made of an ivory silk georgette with handmade drapery embellished with a floral Lily of the Valley motif made of crystals and beads. Inside the gown and Mac’s tux jacket, the couples’ initials were embroidered in gold thread and pearls from Micaela’s great-great-grandmother’s wedding gown, which dates back to 1900.
Micaela’s jewelry served as her something new—a custom-made De Beers Forevermark diamond eternity band that she designed for her new collaboration Forevermark x Micaela. “It was truly a special and personal touch for me to be able to create our rings,” she says. “Lastly, my wonderful friends at Fred Leighton made me the most exquisite vintage hair combs and earrings, which served perfectly as my something borrowed, and lent Mac the most beautiful mother-of-pearl shirt studs and cufflinks. Olympia Le Tan made a bespoke bag that had the embroidery design from Prada and the setting of our ceremony embroidered onto it.”
Moments before the Saturday ceremony at the Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, the Miami weather turned. “The skies opened, and the rain just poured,” Micaela says. “It was actually like the scene out of The Notebook and even though it was messy it was beautiful and utterly romantic. Walking down the aisle with my father was a moment in my life I’ve dreamt of and standing next to Mac was all I could have asked for. We laughed and cried—it was also much shorter as we jumped right into vows and exchanging rings. At the end of the ceremony, my longtime client and friend, Common, surprised our guests by performing ‘The Light’ as our recessional song. Everyone was dancing in the rain!”
After cocktails and dinner, guests moved into the party tent, which had been designed to look like a glamorous night club. Micaela’s childhood friend Justin Paul—the Oscar, Grammy, and Tony Award–winning composer—performed the couple’s first dance, “City of Stars” from La La Land, on a baby grand piano, and then Common performed. Afterwards, the newlyweds toasted with their favorite bottle of Ruinart Blanc de Blanc and cut the cake. Guests danced all night to the Jordan Khan Orchestra and took photos in the *Vanity Fair–*style portrait booth.
To end the night, the violinists from the band performed “Don’t Dream It’s Over” by Crowded House and led guests to the front of the museum. There, the couple departed in a wedding white Bentley getaway car, clearly on cloud nine.
