80s Jewelry Trend Inspired by Lady Gaga in House of Gucci

There are two House Of Gucci scenes you probably already know by heart even if you haven’t yet seen the movie. There’s the “Father, Son, and House of Gucci” prayer of course but also what I call the espresso cup scene. “I’m not a particularly ethical person” Lady Gaga drawls as Patrizia Gucci, “but I am fair.” She strikes the cup twice with the small spoon for emphasis. Clink Clink. Both scenes are studies in the power of gesture, in hand placement as plot point, and if you are paying attention to any of that there is no way

Behind the Scenes of Louis Vuitton’s New High Jewelry Collection

Here is an origin tale of which a brand can be proud: In 1832, a 10-year-old boy in Jura, an eastern region of France, loses his mother, a hatmaker. His farmer father remarries a cruel woman, dies soon after, and the boy, now 13, leaves home to seek his fortune in Paris. Working odd jobs along the way, it takes him more than two years to walk the 292 miles. The boy’s name is Louis Vuitton, and in two decades he’ll make trunks for the Empress of France; 200 years after his birth, his name will appear in rap lyrics

Archaeologists unveil world’s oldest jewelry in Morocco

Archaeologists revealed the world’s oldest jewelry in Morocco, showcasing perforated seashells dating back as much as 150,000 years. The shells, assumed to have formed necklaces and bracelets, were discovered in the Bizmoune cave near the coastal resort of Essaouira. They were dated as 142,000-150,000 years old, according to researcher Abdeljalil Bouzouggar. “This discovery has enormous implications for the history of humanity,” he said, adding that it suggested the owner was using language. “These are symbolic objects, and symbols, unlike tools, can only be transmitted through language,” Bouzouggar added. “So this raises the question: does this discovery imply the existence of

John Copeland & Rebecca Elbek’s Jewelry Is Perfectly Imperfect

Like Rebecca Elbek, John Copeland celebrates the imperfect with his impressionist artwork. It’s not about achieving the perfect shape but drawing beauty from chaos. While Copeland’s dense whirlwinds of oil read more explosive than Elbek’s jewelry, hers is no less dynamic. Layers of gold are often shaped with willfully asymmetric edges and asymmetric gemstone placements. Expression, not perfection, is the goal. So, it follows that Elbek would find a worthy artistic counterpart in Copeland, given their similar predilections for intentionally uneven finishes. The pair have come together on a brief jewelry capsule that suitably captures their shared ethos; on one

Helene Fortunoff, Who Built a Family Jewelry Empire, Dies at 88

Helene Fortunoff, who built a multimillion-dollar jewelry empire with outlets across the New York region and a flagship store on Fifth Avenue, died on Nov. 8 in Miami Beach. She was 88. Mrs. Fortunoff started her career in 1953 working for her husband Alan Fortunoff’s family business, which at the time was a mom-and-pop enterprise selling housewares in Brooklyn. In 1957, she proposed adding a jewelry line and spearheaded the family’s entry into that uncharted sector. “My husband’s interest was limited solely to silver gifts and flatware,” she told

World’s largest jewelry maker Pandora sees stock tumble as sales slow

Shares in Pandora, the world’s largest jewelry maker by production capacity, fell sharply on Monday as investors were concerned about weak sales growth at its own stores in the third quarter. The Danish company lifted its full-year outlook, citing strong US sales, but its share price dropped nearly 7 percent in early trade as it also said sales at Pandora stores grew just 5 percent in the third quarter, while analysts had expected 14 percent growth.
