$132M lifestyle shopping center planned in Iowa

A major shopping center that includes restaurants, ice skating and a Target store has been announced in Waukee.The area, called Waukee Towne Center, will be a $132 million lifestyle shopping center.The 62-acre development will be located in the center of Waukee’s main retail corridor, just south of the intersection of Hickman and Alice’s Road.Waukee, a western suburb of Des Moines, is considered one of the nation’s fastest-growing cities. Waukee Towne Center will feature high-end amenities such as an 8-acre lake with a fountain, an access trail that joins the 89-mile-long Raccoon River Valley Trail, an amphitheater, restaurants, a seasonal ice-skating rink, and green spaces. “Waukee Towne Center will be a great new development for the Waukee community offering desirable shopping, services, restaurants and entertainment in a uniquely designed setting creating attractive community gathering areas,” Mike Pierson, co-owner with his son Nick Pierson, of Pierson Companies, said in a statement. “When we discussed developing this parcel with the City of Waukee at the beginning of the project, they had a desire to see more than a standard power center. We believe we are creating a great gathering area for the citizens of Waukee and Des Moines to enjoy shopping, dining, and social gatherings.”Target will serve as the center’s anchor tenant on the development’s northern edge, coming in at a 148,000-square-foot footprint for the Waukee community. Construction on the Target location could begin in the spring. The first phase of construction, which could begin in the spring of 2023, will include Target, a few junior box spaces, the lake and several outlets along Alice’s Road. The second phase will include the remainder of the lifestyle shopping center and restaurants along the lake.CBRE and Fischels Commercial are handling the brokerage for Waukee Towne Center.”Waukee Towne Center has been designed with experiential and quality-of-life amenities that today’s consumers are seeking.
